Torrence Sound: Enhancing Student Safety with Quick-Time Alerts
In the recent article titled “School Division’s Emergency Notification System Shares Quick-Time News to Parents” by CHVN Radio, the River East Transcona School Division (RETSD) in Winnipeg has taken a proactive step to enhance student and parent safety through the implementation of an emergency notification system.
A Safer Learning Environment: RETSD’s commitment to student safety is evident as they introduced their emergency notification system on October 20. The system successfully reached over 21,000 parents, guardians, emergency contacts, and more than 3,000 division staff members during a test. This initiative ensures that, in times of emergency or when time-sensitive information needs to be disseminated, the division can swiftly connect with its extensive network through text, phone calls, and emails.
Critical Situations Addressed: This emergency notification system plays a pivotal role in maintaining a safe learning environment. It allows the RETSD to promptly communicate crucial information during various situations, such as evacuations, hold-and-secure procedures, lockdowns, division-wide bus cancellations due to inclement weather, and division-wide closures.
Amanda Gaudes, Senior Communications Coordinator, emphasizes the significance of this system in 2022, underscoring that parents now rightfully expect rapid communication during emergencies.
Testing for Preparedness: The test message disseminated to recipients conveyed transparency and readiness. It confirmed that the system was operational and aimed to identify and rectify any issues, ensuring its reliability during actual emergencies. This proactive approach to safety is a testament to RETSD’s commitment to the well-being of students and their families.
