How Security Standards Can Protect K-12 Schools

As reported by GovTech in their article “Nationwide School Security Standard Offers Blueprint for Safety,” security experts are taking significant steps to standardize how U.S. schools protect students and staff. The initiative was spotlighted at the Global Security Exchange in Orlando, where ASIS International unveiled its proposed School Security Standard.

This proposed framework is intended to walk any K-12 institution through the development of a comprehensive safety plan. It encompasses physical security enhancements, threat assessments, and emergency operations procedures tailored specifically for schools. ASIS International, a global organization representing over 30,000 security professionals, spearheaded the development. The framework is also positioned to become an American National Standard, backed by ANSI, ensuring that it meets the highest levels of transparency, participation, and consensus.
