In modern times where different individuals are involved in patient care so it is inevitable to have a proper communication system because all need to share patient information efficiently and immediately. As a consequence there is increasing interest in, and use of, information and communication technologies to support health services. Despite of communication being such an important part of a hospital often we see that it is the most neglected aspect of many hospitals. Communication can be as follows:

There are different modes of communication in a hospital as listed below:
Verbal communication: Verbal communication is usually used by patients and medical practitioners to explain the problem or disease and modes of treatment.
Non verbal communication: Non verbal communication refers to the way you communicate through eye contact or not leaning in or folding hands in order to show you care.
Formal communication: Here the communication is done through written documents or notes where each and everything is specified and leaves no room for deviation.
Informal communication: Informal communication is the communication the caregivers and patients have it makes patient feel more at home.
Signs and signages: Many hospitals have signages displayed for the patients and others to communicate about the facilities and infrastructure.
There can be various types of communication systems as below:
Telephone system: Commonly called intercom system is the most common and effective way of communication in a hospital where in all the departments are connected and can communicate for any patient related work. This gives greater accessibility and speed of communications, patient safety and triage management and flexibility.
Integrated service digital network (ISDN): ISDN can be used for sending voice, data or video over digital telephone line or traditional telephone lines. This system is very useful while transferring patient records such as imaging or files or reports.
Public Address System: This system has an amplifier and a microphone which can be used to address a mass together. This system is very useful in case of any kind of emergency when everyone needs to be alerted.
Televisions: Televisions not only keep the patients entertained but you can also advertise or communicate about the facilities of hospital using Televisions.
CCTV: CCTV cameras are installed for survelliance they not only provide security but also induce alertness among the passerby that they are being watched so antisocial activities can be reduced.
