College Campuses Boost Safety with Security Camera Upgrades

As reported by Campus Safety Magazine in the article, “College Campuses Continue to Upgrade Their Security Cameras,” universities across the country are making significant investments in upgrading their video surveillance systems to enhance campus safety. A recent example is Wilkes University in Pennsylvania, which received a $155,701 grant to improve its security camera system. The funding, sourced from local casino gaming revenue, will support the installation of upgraded cameras that benefit not only the university but also the local police department, which regularly accesses the campus surveillance system.

Wilkes University is not alone in prioritizing enhanced video surveillance. Schools like the University of Georgia and Michigan State University are also implementing new technologies, such as automated license plate readers and AI-powered systems designed to detect threats. These upgrades reflect a growing trend in campus security, where advanced systems are becoming the norm to protect students and staff.

According to the 2023 Campus Safety Video Surveillance Survey, 94% of schools and universities have adopted video surveillance systems, recognizing their value in monitoring campus activities and preventing incidents. From cloud-based video management to AI-driven threat detection, these technological advances are crucial for modern campus security strategies.
